Ipoh Model United Nations (IpohMUN) 2024 is the first rendition of the IpohMUN conference, held from the 22nd to 24th March 2024. With over 150 participants in attendance, including delegates from Penang and the Klang Valley, it is the first physical community-led MUN conference in Malaysia following the Covid-19 pandemic, and is also one of disproportionately few MUN conferences held outside the Klang Valley. As a non-profit conference, it sought to increase awareness and accessibility to educational opportunities, including Model United Nations, to students who may not find it as easily accessible to attend a Model United Nations conference elsewhere, due to often incurring higher costs, registration fees and reduced travelling support. Additionally, it aimed to improve understanding on international awareness and promote global citizenship among members of the youth in Malaysia.
IpohMUN 2024 featured five physical committees: United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), United Nations Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), Historical World Health Organisation (H-WHO) (CRISIS), and International Press Corps. A total of 24 delegate awards were given out across the various committees, a testament to the quality of debate that occurred in IpohMUN, which featured a world-class environment and a Board of Dais consisting of highly experienced Head Chairs from across Malaysia. Within the Board of Dais also included then and current President and Vice-President of the Malaysian Youth Association of Diplomacy and Policy (MYADP), Mr Lim Ke Wen and Ms Winnie Choong respectively. The Best Group Delegation Award and Trophy was awarded to Seri Botani International School, owing to the exceptional performance of students from their institution during the conference.
With its community-built and highly experienced Secretariat team, Ipoh Model United Nations 2024 was unique in its ability to seek out community partners and also gain approval from Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Perak (Perak State Education Department), which meant that students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) schools were able to gain government co-curricular points. Additionally, participants from both high schools and universities were able to join. With accessibility as one of IpohMUN's guiding principles, each delegate paid a registration fee of RM110, which included a complete set of meals on all three days of the conference, goodie bags, refreshments, bus transportation from the partnered hotel, participation certificate, other delegate resources, Chair and VIP remuneration, and many other registration inclusions expected from a premium-quality conference. The focus on providing an all-in experience also meant that delegates did not have any necessary hidden costs before or while attending the conference. Additionally, all delegates from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) schools were granted highly subsidised registration fees of RM60 per delegate, promoting further inclusivity in participation at Ipoh Model United Nations 2024.
