Model United Nations (MUN) is a popular co-curricular activity where students, usually in high school or in university, represent Member States (countries) around the world as delegates in bodies within the United Nations and play out mock simulations of these bodies. While representing these countries, delegates will work towards producing their own academic documents, practicing their public speaking skills in the form of speeches throughout the conference, and learning how to negotiate and collaborate with other delegates to achieve a resolution that would best satisfy the goals of their respective country while similarly being accepted by the majority of other delegates.
MUN conferences are events spanning multiple days, where participants, participating as delegates, will discuss with other delegates to create a resolution to selected issues from beginning to end. These conferences provide a platform for delegates to discuss and debate world problems, draft resolutions, negotiate with potential allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and learn and demonstrate a wide range of skills - all in the interest of mobilising international cooperation to resolve thematic global issues that affect countries across the world. At the end of the conference, delegates from each committee are selected for conference awards, depending on the quality of their performance throughout the conference.
